STRENGTHENING FAMILIES COORDINATOR

 JOB SUMMARY

The Strengthening Families Coordinator (SFC) works as part of a two-person team to engage families that are involved with our agency and within our community (Northwest Philadelphia). The work that the SFC does is guided by the Improving Outcomes for Children (IOC) vision and all work incorporates one or more of the Protective Factors (Parental Resilience, Social Connections, Concrete Supports, Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development, Social and Emotional Competence of Children). SFC and their partner organizes and host three Parent Cafes each month. Parent Cafes help parents to learn and apply the Protective Factors as well as connect with other parents and develop a support network. SFC and their partner also organizes and hosts a minimum of one community engagement event each month. SFC and their partner also collaborates with other Community Umbrella Agency (CUA) Strengthening Families Coordinators and with Tabor's Community Liaison. The SFC participates in team meetings and projects in the course of their work and is required to attend evening and weekend community events and meetings, as needed. Work may take place virtually, in office, and/or in the community. Travel is a necessary part of the SFC job.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field including but not limited to sociology, psychology, counseling, criminal justice, education, divinity, or public health administration.

EXPERIENCE

One (1) year or more experience working in social service, education, health care or related.

  • Skills in typing, basic computer operations, Microsoft, PowerPoint, Excel.

  • Maintain a high degree of discretion dealing with confidential information.
  • Knowledge of parent and child development.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to use own vehicle when other means of transportation is not available.
  • Clean driving history.
  • Must be free from any communicable/infectious diseases.
  • Provide a valid PA child abuse clearance, FBI check and Criminal Background Check.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Functions as part of the larger CUA team responsible for achieving the target goals of improving safety, permanency, and well-being of children, youth, and families.
  • Acts as the coordinator of Parent Cafes. Facilitates Parent Cafes and other support groups.
  • Through family and community outreach, promotes the programs and services offered by the CUA, and provides guidance and feedback to CUA leadership to help address the unique issues, concerns, and needs of the community.
  • Works with the Community Resource Liaison in establishing community connections. Develops and conducts Strengthening Families orientations and workshops for the CUA and the community.
  • Trains Facilitators and Parent Cafe Hosts.
  • Works with the Community Liaison in establishing community connections.
  •  Identifies opportunities for partnership and development of relationships, which could be mutually beneficial to families, the community and the agency.
  • Helps to develop and maintain a database of community contacts. Attends court hearings, as needed.
