Adolescent Initiative Program (AIP)

Program Overview:

Tabors's A.I.P. program was created in 2001 as a means of providing Independent Living Skills training and support to transition age foster youth (14-21).

Tabor is the sole provider of these services in Bucks County. Youth in this program have experienced  foster care and/or congregate care placement through Bucks County Children and Youth Social Services Agency. Independent Living services help young people with skills and resources to support successful transition to adulthood.

Youth who participate in Independent Living services complete a needs assessment, develop a plan, and achieve certain goals. Services are offered individually and through classes. Youth build and practice life skills in areas such as educational planning, career support, financial literacy, housing, legal, and health and wellness.

A.I.P. 5 Key Components:

• Life Skills

  • Small group, 15 week courses focused on Education and Career Planning, Financial Literacy, Personal Image Awareness and Resource Navigation

• Aftercare:

  • Services provided on a voluntary basis for youth that have recently been discharged from BCC&Y up to the age of 21.

• Board Extension:

  • BCC&Y youth 18-21 who are transitioning from High School or G.E.D to Higher Education (College or Trade School). Assistance with housing, educational supports, and other items as needed.

• Mentoring:

  • Tabor AIP youth are able to be connected with a mentor by way of adult volunteers willing to guide youth throughout their time in the program.

• Youth Advisory Board (Y.A.B.):

  • PA Y.A.B. is comprised of current and former youth ages 14-21
  • Youth leaders educate,advocate and cultivate partnerships to create positive change
  • Meets monthly, in and out of the community and participated in statewide conferences and initiatives.
