Director of Grants and Development

JOB SUMMARY

The Public Relations & Development Director oversees Tabor Services, Inc's public relations, and development efforts. This includes promoting the organization’s mission, programs, brand, and activities to increase mission awareness and support among stakeholders and donors. The Director will be responsible for overseeing and implementing activities in the areas of public relations, stakeholder engagement, mission marketing, fundraising, donor cultivation, special events, and grant writing. This position is critical to raising the visibility of Tabor’s services for brand recognition and enhancing stakeholder and donor relationships. Hours are from 9 am – 5 pm Monday through Friday but may vary according to departmental needs. Regular travel is required.

 

EDUCATION

Master’s degree in nonprofit services, development, fundraising, and philanthropy preferred. Will consider a master’s degree in the industry field of study.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years experience in nonprofit development, grant writing, and special events.
  • Demonstrated track record of securing funding from organizations, foundations, and individual funders.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communications skills.
  • Ability to build an organizational culture of philanthropy.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

  • Advanced communications skills, including experience writing press releases, reports, articles, annual reports, solicitations, and speeches.
  • Solid grasp of data analysis with and performance metrics.
  • Advanced business planning and budgeting.
  • Ability to write using original or innovative techniques or style and make effective, persuasive presentations on complex topics to individuals, businesses, and community groups.
  • Knowledge and experience managing sensitive and confidential issues are required.
  • Knowledge in using Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel, and Raiser’s Edge. It also requires essential mathematical ability.

Must have a valid driver's license.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Development and Grants Management

  • Provides strategic direction to Development operations focused on building the organization’s capacity for growing philanthropic revenue. This includes overseeing gift recording, acknowledgment, and reporting solutions that support excellent donor stewardship and all fundraising activity.
  • Identifies and cultivates new donor prospects.
  • Oversees the information technology system that supports fundraising efforts of direct-mail and donation tracking database.
  • Identifies foundation, city, county, state, federal, and corporate grant opportunities for which the organization qualifies.
  • Assist with responding to and writing grant requests.
  • Directs, cultivates, and leads the solicitation phase of fundraising campaigns.
  • Create a strategy for building a new base of annual individual donors, including regular appeals, events, and a donor/membership model.
  • Manage a donor database and oversee data entry, gift processing, and acknowledgment and stewardship processes.
  • Oversee development-related marketing and communications, including press releases, social media where appropriate, email blasts, newsletters, and web updates, and manage donor mailing lists.
  • Directs the development and implementation of fundraising projects.
  • Prepare regular reports that evaluate fundraising efforts, develop monthly progress reports on the implementation status of the work plan, and quarterly reports on the development plan.
  • Oversee development-related marketing and communications, including press releases, social media where appropriate, email blasts, monthly newsletters, and web updates, and manage donor mailing lists.

Board and Committee Relations

  • Serve on the Development Committee, guide and create a team approach for implementing fundraising techniques to build and sustain donors and prospects of Giving.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize collective and individual board and development committee engagement, including advancing board member contributions and solicitations from their respective networks.

 

Data entry/administrative

  • Performs data entry – donor tracking lists and donor database (Raiser’s Edge)
  • Prepares timely administration of donor acknowledgment letters and tax receipts
  • Performs essential administration functions as needed.
